1. Nf3 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. d4 d6 5. e4 c5 6. d5 O-O 7. Bd3 Bg4 8. h3 Bxf3 9. Qxf3 Nbd7 10. Qd1! Ne8 11. Bd2 Ne5 12. Be2 e6?! 13. O-O Nc7 14. Qc2 a6 15. a4 Rb8 16. f4 Nd7 17. Be1 f5 18. Rd1 Qe7 19. exf5 exf5 20. Bf2 Rbe8 21. Bf3 Bd4! (while Fritz does not rate this move so highly, I thought that gaining control of the open e file, the knight outpost on c5 and the initiative was good value for a pawn) 22. Bxd4 cxd4 23. Rxd4 Qe3+ 24. Qf2 Nc5 25. Qxe3 Rxe3 26. a5? I was expecting 26. Bd1 to which I was intending to reply 26... Nd3 although with some concern that if I eventually took the b2 pawn my knight might have difficulty escaping 26... Nb3 27. Rdd1 Rfe8 28. Kf2 Nxa5 29. c5! Nc4! 30. cxd6?! (I was slightly surprised by this move) 30... Nxd6 (the advantage of having the knight on c4, since it now acts as an effective block) 31. Rc1 R8e7 32. Rc2 Rd3 33. Rfc1 Nce8 34. Be2 Rd4 35. Bf3? Rxf4 36. g3 Rd4?! I did think for a while about the very natural looking 36... Rb4! which Fritz gives as the best move 37. Ne2 Ne4+! 38. Bxe4 Rdxe4 39. Nf4! Rd4 40. Rc8 (which I was expecting and prepared for) 40... Kf7! 41. h4? Rd2+ I did briefly consider 41... Nd6?! but fortunately decided against it on analysis 41... Nf6! looks best followed by Rd2+ 42. Kf3 Rxb2 43. Ne6! Rd2? 43... Kf6! is much better, getting Black's king out of the trouble zone 44. Re1 Rd3+!? (a potentially useful intermezzo) 45. Kf2 Kf6! 46. Rd8 b5? (I had thought a lot about the few moves before, especially leading up to move 45, and so now was in time trouble) 47. Ra8? (but White was also in time trouble; recording stopped here) 47... Rxd5! 48. Rxa6 Rd6! 49. Nf4!? (a tactical trap, played with an OMG-type groan after) 49... Rxa6? 49... Rxe1 wins for Black 50. Rxd6+ Nxd6 51. Kxe1 Ne4! 50. Nd5+ Kf7 51. Rxe7+ Kf8 52. Rxe8+! Kxe8 53. Nc7+ Kd7 54. Nxa6 Kc6 55. Ke3 Kd5 56. Kd3 (from here on a cannot 100% remember the moves, but the gist is correct) 56... h6 57. Nb4+ Ke5 58. Kc3 h5 59. Nc6+ Ke4 60. Ne7 Kf3 61. Nxg6 Kg4 62. Ne7 Kxg3 63. Nxf5+ Kg4 draw offered and accepted 1/2-1/2 [Andrew Varney]
